The climate in this region is Mediterranean subtropical.
Phinikoudes embankment, which is full of tall palms, is simply the best place for walks. This place features a wonderful view of the bay and yachts that are moored nearby. Near the embankment is also located the best beach of Larnaca - Mackenzie Beach. Actually, the choice of beaches on the island is really wide. Active rest fans may enjoy scuba diving (they can even enjoy stunning looks of sunk ships), windsurfing, or make a ride on yacht. Tourists with kids can visit the local amusement park.
Among the sights of this place are St. Lazarus Church, Panagia Angeloktisti Church, Larnaca Fortress that has been used by the English as a prison and today it is turned into a museum, Al Kebir Mosque, Museum of Pieris and the ancient aqueduct.
The most interesting natural sight of Larnaka is Sault Lake that is located 5 kilometers away from the city. According to the legend this lake appeared in the result of the actions of Saint Lazarus. He turned a man who refused to give him a bunch of grapes into a lake. On winter this lake becomes home for pink flamingo. On the shore of the lake is located Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque that is known as one of the main holy Islamic places on the world. One of the oldest monasteries of Crete – male monastery Stavrovouni on Mount Phillips – is closed for visitors.
