Its beautiful surroundings and beneficial geographic location has made people want to crave for Vigo in all times. It is impossible to overstress Vigo's historic importance as a center of fishing industry, which used to play a decisive role in the city's economy. However, this industry sustained loss after disastrous oil spills, which have impacted sea life very badly and have left no alternative for locals but to look for another job.
Vigo has its own native dialect – Gallegan, which has been around for many centuries, resulting from the interspersion between Spanish and Portugese cultures. This is one of the reasons why there is a clearly defined touch of Portugese and Brazilian culture in the city.
