Ecotourism, Adventure, and Agriculture Tourism in 2020

News Nowadays, tourism takes new forms, making previously small and niche vacation types nearly mainstream. While traditional beach holidays seem to be less attractive for tourists, especially for younger generations, there is an increasing number of travelers interested in ecotourism, wellness trips, adventure and agriculture tourism. The Arabian Travel Market 2020, a major tourism event that will take place in Dubai in April 2020, will focus on these new traveling trends.

Environmental problems and climate change make modern travelers more conscious when it comes to choosing hotels. The research performed by Colliers International states that as many as 70% of global travelers are ready to make their choices in favor of eco-friendly hotels. More than half of respondents can even adjust their vacation plans in order to be more sustainable.

This sustainability trend has given rise to a new generation of accommodation for tourists. Known as glamping, this is a camp with extended comfort and luxurious facilities. Glamping has been quickly developing in the Middle East in the last decade. For tourists, this is also an amazing opportunity to learn more about the culture of the region as many of these sites are Bedouin camps. Rather than booking an ordinary hotel in Ras Al Khaimah or Oman, many tourists think that it is way more interesting to stay at luxurious camps.

More tourists prefer to travel solo these days. Solo travel grew by 17.4% in 2018. Both men and women prefer exploring new places alone and planning their holidays the way they want. Hotels around the world become more acceptable of solo travelers, and travel agencies remove single supplement fees. The report by Colliers tells that more than half of millennials (58%) are more likely to travel alone. This is higher than the result of baby boomers (47%).

There is one more interesting fact about solo travelers – in fact, 74% of solo travelers are women. They get their travel inspiration from popular platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, and social media. Modern hospitality companies cannot neglect this category of tourists. Currently, women control approximately 40% of all wealth in the world. Many hotels in the Middle East still have space to improve if they want to attract this category of modern tourists. What do solo female travelers want? They usually make their choice based on culture, adventure, gastronomy, and relaxation. Finally, there is a growing number of tourists who want to participate in voluntary programs or attend various master classes during their sleep.
