Hôtel de Crillon in Paris Reopens After a Four-Year Restoration

News One of the most iconic hotels in Paris, Hôtel de Crillon, is finally open after an extensive renovation that lasted as long as four years. The cost of all restoration works is more than impressive – 200 million euro (US$227 million). Despite all complications of the Parisian hospitality industry, the hotel is opening at the right time.

Hotels in Paris had to face numerous challenges after the 2015 terrorist attacks. Even though there were some problems with the number of tourist arrivals, the average hotel occupancy of the past four years is more than 77%, and the average daily rate for the same period is 241 euro (US$273.67). Paris was also put on top of the Hotel Investment Attractiveness Index by Colliers International. Hôtel de Crillon belongs to the segment of ultra-luxury hotels in Paris, which is still not overbuilt despite the number of hotels in the French capital.

The Crillon, which is currently owned by a Saudi prince and managed by Rosewood Hotels (New World Group, Hong Kong), was built in the 18th century. The latest restoration refreshed the look of the historical hotel but kept its original atmosphere and style. Richard Martinet, a Paris architect, was responsible for this upgrade. A team of four more Parisian designers helped him to redesign the interiors, creating a unique combination of modern Parisian chic and timeless high luxury. Both the façade and interior were covered by the restoration works. The number of guest rooms was decreased as well – from 147 to 129.

The restoration brought two new suites to Hôtel de Crillon. Called Les Grand Apartments, these high-end suites were designed by designer and creative director of Chanel Karl Lagerfeld. There are also three smaller suites, Ateliers d’Artistes, dedicated to Parisian artists and poets. The hotel’s dining facilities were also upgraded. The legendary restaurant of the Crillon, L’Ecrin, is again run by Christopher Hache just like in 2010, before the closure. There are two more restaurants - Brasserie d’Aumont run by Chef Justin Schmitt and Jardin d’Hiver that offers desserts by Pastry Chef Jérôme Chaucesse. The Crillon also has a bar – La Cave. The 60-seat bar offers a great collection of wine starting from the beginning of the 20th century.

Hôtel de Crillon is one of the most luxurious hotels in Paris. It is located just 0.6km from Tuileries Garden at the foot of the Champs-Elysees. The hotel was opened in 1909, but the building dates back to 1758. The hotel offers 129 guest rooms and 46 suites, the price of which ranges from USD$1,350 to USD$15,000. The hotel features a broad spectrum of amenities and extra services for its guests, including free Wi-Fi, a spa and fitness center, gym, satellite TV channels, a health club, 24h reception, a private terrace, beauty salon, and much more.
