While wine sommeliers have become traditional in many hotels around the world, tea sommelier remains a rare profession, so there’s no wonder the news come from China, a country with rich traditions of drinking tea. Niccolo Chengdu hotel in Chengdu announced that they had appointed Lily Zhou as their tea sommelier. Zhou will help hotels guests to know more about teas and will help them understand peculiarities of locally sourced tea. Hotel guests are welcome to attend special ceremonies at the Tea Lounge, where they will experience an aesthetic ritual with personalized tips and advice. During the tea ritual, guests will be offered to try several varieties of tea, including an exclusive one which is available at the Tea Lounge only. That is natural green tea grown on the local tea mountain named Mengding.
Lily Zhou knows everything about tea. She was born into a family of tea farmers, so she developed love to it since childhood. She started working on the tea plantation of her family at the age of 12. Later she studied under Wang Guofu and managed to become one of youngest tea masters in the world. Zhou is currently in process of finishing her education, and then, starting from August, she will work at the hotel’s Tea Lounge. She will organize traditional tea ceremonies and will suggest best tea types for hotel guests. The management of Niccolo is sure that fascinating experience will be loved by all guests of the hotel.
