TripAdvisor has recently published its newest research called “the Psychology of Travel” that shows most important factors that impact vacation choices of travellers. During the survey, more than 53,000 respondents and hoteliers gave their opinion on the subject.
Questions were prepared not only for travellers, but also for hoteliers. The latter were asked what actions they take to relate to their guests. Over a half of respondents (52%) said their main priority was to ensure smooth and simple booking, while 36% of hoteliers tried to make arrival as much convenient as possible.
According to travellers, their main priority is to find unique, “one of a kind” vacation (66% of respondents) that will make them feel excited. For example, travellers from Barcelona to Beijing said their main priority was to get interesting experience during vacation rather than leisure lounging by the pool. The questions about emotions travellers get while they book their vacations clearly show that these days travellers are more aware of their destination. As many as 22% of male respondents say they feel “in control” of every step of the vacation, and 15% say they feel confident. Finally, the third part of the survey was devoted to post-vacation emotions of travellers. When return home, most of travellers are willing to plan more vacations or are even ready to do some lifestyle changes. Almost 66% of respondents say they plan more vacations on return; 45% say vacations make them feel more open-minded and tolerant; 38% of respondents add new food to their diet; 38% are glad to return back home and like their home cities more; and, finally, 23% of travellers say they are more interested in relationship, family and friends after vacation.
