Hotel industry in Germany definitely does not suffer from any kind of recession. More and more investors are interested in opening hotels there, and, consequently, more hotels are to open in future. Currently, the country’s hotel pipeline estimates 338 new properties, including budget accommodations and one-of-a-kind projects like new Grand Hotel The Fontenay located in Hamburg, at the Alster lake. Built by Klaus-Michael Kuehne, logistics billionaire, the luxury resort is to open in 2016. Kuehne, who already owns the Castell Son Claret hotel in Mallorca, plans to invest as many as 100 million euro into this project.
There are some other prominent hotel projects in the country. For example, Lidl, a local discount hotel chain, also plans to open a property in Hamburg. A hotel on the Reeperbahn is located on the site of once a furniture store. The cost of opening the 180 guestroom hotel is 20 million euro. Building works are expected to start in the end of the next year and end in the middle of 2016.
Citadines, a hotel company specializing on serviced apartments, will open two new houses that will be located in Frankfurt am Main and Hamburg. When the two apartment houses are open, the company’s portfolio in the country will reach 4 properties. Nuremberg will also become home to several new hotels. These are the Holiday Inn Express with 124 guestrooms and the 80-guestroom Hampton hotel operated by Hilton. Both the hotels are expected to open in 2014.
In a bit more than two weeks the city of Friedrichshafen will get one more hotel the 142 guestroom Comfort Hotel. An interesting fact about the hotel it is located in a building that also houses offices of criminal police and customs. Fans of spa will certainly fall in love with a new resort in Münster. The 88 guestroom spa hotel is located right at the lakeside. Finally, new medical spa hotels will open in Coesfeld and Buldern. The owner of the last three hotels mentioned is the same German cosmetic company Orgon.
