InterContinental Group (IHG) has announced the signing of a new Crowne Plaza hotel in the UK. This will be Crowne Plaza Newcastle Stephenson Quarter. The hotel will be located in the modern district of the city Newcastle Central Station.
The property is to be built by the Newcastle-headquartered developer Silverlink. Once finished, the 251 guestroom hotel will be managed by IHG. Crowne Plaza Newcastle Stephenson Quarter will be located in a newly rebuilt area, the total square of which is 10 acres. The site is decided to be turned into a modern business district with office, retail and some entertainment space. The project is financed by Newcastle City Council, Miller Construction, Silverlink, IHG and the Local Enterprise Partnership. It is reported that the Crowne Plaza hotel will have the largest business space in the whole city thanks to its huge banquet and conference halls. Guests of Crowne Plaza Newcastle Stephenson Quarter will be also able to enjoy the services of spa and fitness facilities, a gym, a sauna, and a swimming pool. Wide choice of high quality services will surely attract both business and leisure travellers to this hotel.
The hotel will occupy a truly historic site the Boiler Shop warehouse. Many years ago the building belonged to English civil engineer Robert Stephenson, who used the building to make and build his steam locomotive named Rocket. Visitors of Crowne Plaza Newcastle Stephenson Quarter will surely enjoy simple access to various sights of the city including the Sage Music Centre, Metro Radio Arena Newcastle, the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, and, of course, St James’ Park that is home to Newcastle United football club.
