The beautiful Angers Castle is one of the largest in France. Its total area is about 25,000 square meters. The very first fortification was built in its place in the 3rd century. The territory of the present city of Angers was under the rule of the Roman Empire at that time. The Romans built the first fortress here to protect the conquered lands from barbarian tribes. Chateau d Angers, France Count Geoffrey II built the very first stone castle on the site of a wooden fortress in the early 11th century. One of the largest reformations in the history of the castle took place under the rule of Catherine de' Medici in the 16th century. The castle has been on full alert all these years. It served as a refuge for the Polish government in 1939. The Polish government sought shelter from German troops. The fortress was occupied by German troops a year later. The fortress managed to preserve many of its historical values despite the complex history.

A series of tapestries called "Apocalypse" is considered one of the main artifacts of Angers Castle. The total length of this canvas with scenes of the Apocalypse depicted on it is 144 meters. Its height is 5.5 meters. It took the masters more than five years to create such a huge tapestry. In addition to its unique architecture and historical values, Angers Castle can also rightfully be proud of the landscaped garden surrounding it.
