John Glenn Columbus International Airport is located 10 kilometres from the central business district of Columbus, the state of Ohio, the United States. This civilian airport is considered to be the second busiest airport of the state in terms of passenger traffic after Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The airfield was built and put into operation in 1929. During World War II, most of the facility was taken over by the U.S. Navy, which founded Naval Air Station Columbus. Also, during the war, an aviation factory was established on the grounds of the airport. In 2016, its name Port Columbus International Airport was changed to current one, in honour of U.S. astronaut and Senator John Glenn. The air terminal services more than 7.5 million passengers a year. The airport operates two runways. The passenger terminal comprises 3 concourses, which are A, B and C.
The airport is connected to the centre of Columbus by the AirConnect bus service. Buses stops at the airport's arrival and departure levels every 30 minutes. Going to the city centre, buses make stops at the city hotels. Besides, bus lines 7-Mt. Vernon and 23-James/Stelzer run to various parts of the city. The GoBus buses go to suburban areas. Taxi services provide transportation to and from the airport (there is a designated pick-up location). In addition, you can use various car request services and charter buses. Car rental services are available at the airport.
Eight vehicle rental agencies operate at CMH. These are Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar rent a car, Enterprise rent a car, Hertz, National, and Thrifty. The car rental counters are placed in a multi-level parking garage, which is adjacent to the passenger terminal. The offices of the vehicle rental companies are situated in the short-term parking zone. In order to get to the car rental counters, you should proceed from the passenger terminal through a walkway to the parking garage opposite the terminal, following the signs for car rental. The car rental counters in the parking garage is accessible on the side of Concourse A (the international departure area). Rental vehicles are collected from and returned to the parking garage, unless otherwise indicated in the rental agreement.
The rental terms and conditions stipulate the inclusion of insurance fees and taxes into the rental cost, unlimited mileage, no deposit (zero deductible), and a full to full fuel policy. What is more, a driver should be aged 21 or over.
