Surrounded by such beautiful and might rivers, as the Schuylkill and the Delaware, not far from New Jersey and Camden, marvellous Philadelphia is situated. It takes the fifth place according the size in the United States and considered to be the biggest one in its own state.
The founder of the city William Penn was going to create there a colony, where would be no injustice and abjection. He wanted to turn this place into the city of religious freedom. Lots of people, who were persecuted, joined him. So this way Philadelphia was created. In the Greek its name means 'brotherly love'.
From 1790 to 1800 Philadelphia serves as the capital of the country.
In the beginning of the 19th century the city turned into the 'Workshop of America': it supplied the country with textile, meal, machinery. At the times of the industrious revolution, this city was one of the leading.
Nowadays it's still a great centre of medicine, education, industries and economics. A sixth part of all the doctors in the United States get education in this very city. A large number of new technologies in various spheres of life are created there.
