Plenty of tourists, traveling to the Alps usually have interchange in Lyon (the capital of the Rhone-Alpes area). But the city itself is a splendid place for spending there a week or two. In 1998 Lyon's town center was put in the UNESCO World Heritage List (at that time only a few cities could boast of it). It's also special that it takes place between two rivers – the Rhone and the Saone. Speaking about the heritage of this city, we can't consider it two be just a typical city in the north of France or a traditional city with Latin influence. Lyon has this specific mixture of the two styles, and maybe, this very mixture makes it so attractive and charming.

Lyon was founded by the Romans on Fourviere Hill and if to look attentively, you still may notice some features of those times. At first the city was called Lugdunum, which in Latin means 'the city of light'. Even now Lyon proves its name, when in the evenings more than a hundred of houses light up, and it seems to that you've got into a fairy-tale.
