Luxembourg is the capital of the country with the same name. The city was built on the rock, which surely creates a special charm. All over the world Luxemburg is famous for the various institutions of the European Union and wide banking network. More than a third of the population is expatriates, so it creates an international atmosphere in the city. First of all it can be noticed by a wide range of products and dishes in Luxembourg shops and cafes. There also a lot of restaurants that can boast of one or more stars.
Though the city is not a large one, it can offer you various places of interest, among which there are the Casemates du Bock, that remind us about the strategic role of the city. In the city one can also visit a great number of museums that tell us about the history of the city, one of them is the Luxembourg Historical Museum. The architecture of the city at ones makes your heart sing, and it's not surprising: a number of historical buildings of the city were put in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Shopping. Luxembourg is a wonderful place to do some shopping. There one can find a lot of shops starting with fashionable and expensive boutiques with designer clothes and ending with some of quite cheap trademarks. The most part of the city is a pedestrian zone, which of course makes shopping even more pleasant. Those, who can't imagine themselves without nightlife, will be pleased with a great number of pubs, bars and clubs. Those, who have a little bit calmer lifestyle, can go to theatre or cinema. In other words, Luxembourg is a cozy, old place, where one can have a splendid time without wasting time on driving from one part of the city to another.
Bridge of Adolf. Bridge of Adolf, a well-known Luxembourg arched bridge named after Grand Duke Adolf I of Luxembourg, is a national symbol of Grand Duchy Luxembourg. It was unveiled in 1903 and for those times it was the biggest stone bridge in the world. The bridge is more than a hundred years old, but the natives still call it 'the new bridge'. Under the bridge the river Pétrusse flows. Bridge of Adolf connects Boulevard Royal in upper part of the city (Ville Haute) and Avenue de la Liberte in the Gare.
