The winter season is approaching and many hotels in Switzerland are about to reopen and greet their guests. The Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvédère, which is probably the most famous hotel in Davos, is opening its doors too. The iconic property resumes its work tomorrow, on 11 December 2020. The hotel’s management and staff are super excited about the reopening and are impatiently waiting when guests fill this luxurious five-star property.
The Steigenberger hotel in Davos decided to use the forced closure to renovate and develop new safety and hygiene standards for guests and staff. The hotel now has a small art gallery that exhibits works of Hans E. Deutsch, one of the fathers of abstract expressionism. The gallery opens on the same day as the hotel. The Swiss-born artist was awarded the Albrecht Durer Medal and Rembrandt Prize. Hans Deutsch died in 2014. The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts and KENSINGTON Art GmbH.
As Christmas is approaching, the hotel also promises a special festive program. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the Restaurant Belvédère will offer a special seven-course menu. Moreover, guests are welcome to make a memorable ride in a traditional carriage and see snowy Davos on December 25. Two days later, on 27 and 28 December, the Swiss artist Urs Rudin will exhibit his sand portraits at the hotel. Finally, there will be a special five-course evening on New Year’s Eve.
Ever since the opening on 17 July 1875, the Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvédère has been one of the best and most famous hotels in Davos. It started as a boutique hotel, slowly turning into a landmark of the Swiss town. The romantic atmosphere of this place has always attracted many famous personalities. Such famous writers as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Robert Louis Stevenson lived and worked at this hotel, and Erich Kästner even wrote a novel that takes place at the Belvédère.
Davos is not only a luxury resort but also a cradle of winter sports. The Davos Ski Club, which was established at the beginning of the 20th century, is still the largest skiing club in the country. Tourists can enjoy all kinds of winter sports and activities here including traditional ones like skiing and snowshoe hiking or try something new, for example, fat biking, ice climbing, curling, and air boarding. The choice of leisure and sporting opportunities is virtually endless.
