Mallorca is a top vacation destination in Europe but even the Balearic Islands are experiencing troubles during the pandemic. The Majorca Tourism Foundation (MFT) and the Majorca Tourist Board shared their forecasts regarding the future of travel, health protocols, and preventative measures that will shape the industry in 2021. This information will be helpful to all travelers who plan to book a hotel in Mallorca and enjoy a vacation in this ever-popular destination.
Safety and sustainability are the two main subjects that Mallorca wants to emphasize. Tourists need to know what safety protocols are implemented on the islands and how they potentially can impact the local ecosystem. MFT is currently working on a new application Playas Seguras or Safe Beaches. It will be available in time for the 2021 season. As social distancing rules will most probably not disappear next year, it will be important to monitor people on the beaches, enabling everyone to enjoy sunbathing and swimming. Beach recreation is one of the major reasons why people book hotels in Palma and other resorts in Mallorca and visit this Spanish island.
The Playas Seguras application will monitor how crowded local beaches are and will provide information on beaches that have free space. The application will be available to both tourists and residents. Tourists planning to visit Majorca will also appreciate the information published on the Majorca Safe Tourism website. This website covers all aspects of traveling to the Balearic Islands starting from arrival at the airport to staying in a hotel and enjoying various activities.
The United Kingdom is the second-largest source market for Mallorca, so the new website is much targeted at tourists from this country. For British tourists, this island is the most popular among the Balearic Islands. For example, as many as 3.7 million tourists from the UK visited the islands from January to December 2019. More than half of them 2.4 million people went to Mallorca. The island greeted 2.7% more British tourists in 2019 compared to 2018.
MFT plans to continue its efforts in promoting the island as a vacation destination. For this purpose, the non-profit organization plans to participate in local and international exhibitions and meetings. The Majorca Film Commission will prepare videos and other visual information for tourism agencies and social media to advertise the island.
