For example, hotels in Rome and Venice weren’t as popular as the Italian Riviera and Sardinia in recent months. The trend is expected to continue in 2020.

So, what destinations do US travelers discover these days? Spain and Canary Islands top the list of new destinations. Hotels in Ibiza will particularly benefit from the growing demand as bookings are already 50% up. Palma de Mallorca, Oviedo, and Seville posted increases of 35%, 30%, and 15% respectively. Canada (Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, and Halifax) is the second top new destination of 2020 with increases in bookings up to 400% in some destinations. Peru and Japan occupy the third and fourth places respectively. Next year, Japan will host the Olympic Games, so increased demand for Tokyo hotels is easy to understand. However, tourists are particularly interested in Naha, Okinawa, Sapporo, and Osaka.

The list of top new destinations also includes Italy (Cagliari, Genoa, Olbia, and Calabria), Australia (Sydney, Adelaide, Gold Coast, and Melbourne), Portugal (Porto, Faro, Lisbon), Brazil (Fortaleza, Iguazu Falls, and Sao Paulo), and India (Goa, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Delhi).

Experiences, attractions, and different activities have become very important for modern travelers. They are not just additional options to make a vacation more interesting. These days, more and more people make their travel choices based on certain experiences or attractions. The list of top-selling activities for 2020 looks the following. Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles is the top choice followed by the Robot Restaurant Show in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Chichén Itzá in the Yucatán Peninsula (Mexico) occupies third place. The fourth and fifth places belong to High Roller Observation Wheel in Las Vegas and San Diego Zoo in California.
