Singapore Food Festival Opens in July

News All foodies and travelers keen on event tourism may want to book a hotel in Singapore this month as the city-state hosts a fabulous food event – the Singapore Food Festival. This is an anniversary year for the popular annual event because Singapore will host it for the 25th time. From 13 to 29 July, the city will turn into a true mecca for all gastronomic experts and people interested in culinary delights. The event covers different gastronomic trends from traditional to exotic flavors. It is also a great chance to try authentic Singaporean cuisine for all travelers.

This year’s event theme is “Savor Singapore in Every Bite”. The organizers of the event tried to emphasize not only new and old culinary traditions of the city-state but also throw the light upon rich culture and history of Singapore. Scattered across three weekends, the Singapore Food Festival will offer a number of interesting activities for visitors, such as theatrical performances, interesting workshops and master classes, cooking demos, and much more. It is definitely a “must visit” event for everyone interested in gastronomy, so there is no wonder why Singapore hotels expect an increased number of visitors in July.

STREAT will be the core event of the festival. It is an outdoor event that lasts two days, Friday, July 13th, and Saturday, July 14th. This is the fourth time that STREAT takes place in Singapore, but this year’s version will be bigger and has more participants. Located at Empress Lawn, the event will attract such famous guests as chefs of Michelin restaurants Emmanuel Stroobant and Haikal Johari. They will use their skills and experience to create a number of mouthwatering dishes, including beef rib with pepper, ginger, and buah keluak; or scallops with laksa leaf oil, turmeric, and coconut. Visitors can order a full five-course menu for S$55.

During STREAT, guests are welcome to attend a dedicated bar by Manhattan Bar that owns the honorable title of the 2018 best bar in Asia. Other popular establishments participating in the event include Venue by Sebastian, Sinar Pagi Nasi Padang, Old Bibik Peranakan Kitchen, Gayatri Restaurant, and Morsels. They will offer different cuisines, from street food to modern versions of the classical Singaporean dishes. Moreover, there will be special beverages like beer and water crafted particularly for the Singapore Food Festival. Produced by Trouble Brewing, these drinks will be available only during the event.

In addition to trying delicious food, attendees are welcome to participate in numerous workshops and master classes or enjoy interesting performances. The festival is based on four “pillars”. Modernity is about reinventing classical Singaporean dishes and adding a new vibe to them. The Art pillar cherishes local culinary craftsmen. The Culture pillar is focused on Singaporean dining culture, and the Tradition pillar examines traditional methods of cooking and ingredients used for decades.
