Vietnam Welcomes a Record Number of Travelers in First Four Months of 2018
The beginning of this year has been exceptionally good for the hospitality industry of Vietnam. Within just four months of 2018, the country welcomed as many as 5.5 million foreign guests. That is 29.5% more than during the same period a year ago. The General Statistics Office has just released the stunning achievement of the country’s travel industry.
Hotels in Hanoi and other popular destinations of Vietnam become increasingly popular with tourists from Asian countries – their number went up by 36%. All major source markets of the region show substantial growth with the Republic of Korea being the top one. The number of visitors from this country to Vietnam grew by 67.3%! Other countries also provided more tourists – the number of visitors from China and Malaysia added 39.7% and 16.3% respectively. Other notable source Asian countries are Taiwan (+14.3%), Thailand (+9.2%), Singapore (+8%), and Japan (+7%).
Not only Asian travelers chose Vietnam as their next vacation destination. The county is getting more popular with Europeans as well. Here the increase in visitors estimated 12.9%. Such countries as Italy and Russia featured the highest increases of 19.7% and 13.4% respectively. Tourists from many EU countries were also visiting Vietnam more actively. 8.6% more tourists from France and 8% more tourists from Germany visited Vietnam during January – April 2018. The number of visitors from the UK was growing as well (+11.1%).
April was a particularly active month for the hospitality industry of Vietnam as the country welcomed 1.34 million foreign visitors (up 25.2%). This incredible growth was partially caused by several important events, such as the Vietnam International Travel Mart the Ho Chi Minh City tourism festival, Vietnam’s Ethnic Culture Day in Hanoi, the opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year 2018 that took place in Quang Ninh, the Mon Asian Food Festival in Hanoi, and other events.
Last year, Vietnam already set a record, welcoming 12.9 million foreign tourists, reaching an increase of 29.1% compared to 2016. This year, the country hopes to attract even more visitors – up to 15.5 million. The country, indeed, has much to offer even to discerning travelers. Last year, Rough Guides travel website included Vietnam in the list of the top 20 most beautiful countries of the world. Magnificent beaches, stunning islands, the largest cave in the world Son Doong, incredible rock formations, and Ha Long Bay listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site are just some of the places that inspire so many travelers.
