2018 only prove that. Recently, Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry published data regarding the total number of visitors to the country in the first two months of 2018. According to this data, almost 3 million tourists visited the country in January February 2018. That is a great achievement that shows that Turkish tourism is back on track, and this year’s results may be on par with 2015.
The General Directorate of Security stated that more than 1.5 million foreign visitors arrived in Turkey in February 2018. That is significantly more than a year ago. The increase estimates 31.66%. Naturally, Istanbul hotels benefited the most from the increased popularity of the country. More than a half of foreign travelers (55.56% or 848,510 people) arrived in the capital. Edirne hotels also had a busy February they served 171,165 visitors or 11.21% of the total. The third place is occupied by Artvin. This Turkish city welcomed 165,077 visitors (10.81% of the total guests). One of the most popular resort destinations in Turkey, Antalya, occupied the fourth place with the share of 5.55%. Antalya hotels enjoyed 84,733 foreign visitors. Finally, Van is in the fifth place with 41,463 foreign travelers (2.72%).
The distribution of foreign visitors in Turkey by nationalities is the following. Iranians make up the biggest group as their share is 12.84% in the total number of foreign visitors or 196,125 people. They are followed by Georgia Turkey greeted as many as 156,598 visitors from this country (10.25% of the total). The third place is occupied by Bulgaria 112,078 visitors of 7.34%. Germans are the fourth with 109,729 or 7.19% of travelers from this country who visited Turkey in February 2018.
In the period of January-February 2018, as many as 2,988,640 foreign visitors arrived in Turkey. As it was already mentioned above, that is 34.91% higher than in January February 2017, so it is truly an important milestone for the country.
The top five provinces that enjoyed most foreign visitors are the following: Istanbul, Edirne, Artvin, Antalya, and Agri. Experts forecast that this year, in general, will be beneficial for the travel industry of the country, and we will hear about new achievements, increased number of visitors, and growth of revenues of Turkish hotels again.
