Record Occupancy of Hotels in Berlin in September 2015

News September is traditionally a good month for hotels in Berlin as this is the period of large sport events such as Internationales Stadionfest (ISTAF) and Berlin marathon, so there is always increased demand for hotel rooms. However, this year the demand was so high that hotels in the German capital managed to break the 90% occupancy record.

In September 2015, more than 59,000 people participated in Berlin marathon, and the 74th Internationales Stadionfest Berlin gathered 148 athletes from 39 countries. The event was watched by 48,500 people. These key events helped increase demand, which was noticeable in all segments. The growth of demand in Best Available Rate estimated 5%. Group travels demand added 20% in September, and Individual Leisure segment added 4.5%. The increase of revenues from food department estimated 6.4%, while the beverage revenues were down by 3.8%, clearly showing that athletes avoided alcohol. Overall, September was the most successful month of 2015 for Berlin hotels. The increase of TRevPAR (total revenue per available room) estimated 3.2% to 215.06euro, while GOPPAR (gross operating profit per available room) grew by 2.6% to 94.93euro.

Hotels in Rome didn’t get such fantastic results as their Berlin colleagues, but they also enjoyed a strong month with occupancy reaching 84.9%. This helped hoteliers in the Italian capital increase average room rate by 4.6% to 221.95euro. RevPAR (revenue per available room) also added 4.7% to a heady 188.52euro. Warsaw was another European capital that reached record occupancy in September 2015. Hotels in Warsaw enjoyed fantastic occupancy of 91% - the highest one in the last three years. EUROMAT Congress and Exhibition, the four day conference that takes place once in two years in new host city, was one of reason for such success. The conference helped increase occupancy of Warsaw hotels by 1.8% and reach high average room rate of 107.56 (+10.4%). The Rooms Revenue added 12.7%, and revenues from Food and Beverage sales added 3.3% and 1.5% respectively, helping TRevPAR gain 9.9%.
