As it is stated in South China Morning Post, Macau police arrested members of a large criminal syndicate. During the operation, over 100 people were arrested. That includes Alan Ho, nephew of famous SJM Holdings tycoon Stanley Ho, and 96 alleged prostitutes.
Supposedly, the syndicate controlled as many as 100 guestrooms in the hotel managed by Alan Ho. The police do not provide the name of the hotel, but according to the press, that is Hotel Lisboa in Macau. Probably, the syndicate used hotel since 2013. The Hotel Lisboa, together with several other hotels, was managed by Alan Ho, 68, who’s working as senior hotel executive at SJM Holdings.
The arrests happened soon after the celebration of the 15th anniversary of Macau returning to Chinese rule. Chinese president Xi Jinping was present at the celebration. Xi is known for his large anti-corruption programs that affect many areas. Earlier, Chinese police managed to sweep down flow of illicit funds, and that severely hurt revenues of casinos in Macau.
According to the police, the syndicate had profit of US$50 million a year from running prostitution services in just one hotel. Alan Ho, who is also known as chairman of Association of Macau Tourist Agents, was transferred to the public prosecution office that will define what charges to lay on him.
