SpaFinder Wellness has published its traditional annual report dedicated to top trends of the spa and wellness industry for this year. The research is based on on-going surveys that involved spa and wellness professionals and thousands of consumers around the world.
According to the company, “Healthy Hotels” is going to become the main trend for 2013. Modern travellers want not only travel, but also use every spare minute to improve their health and vitality. Therefore, more hotels will offer spa services either in-rooms or in spa centres on site.
Massage has always been very popular with visitors, but this year the “mindfulness massage” will be on top. This massage uses both breath work and so called “body scans” and covers every part of the body.
“Earthing” is rather a new trend and it means having a direct contact with electron-rich surface (for example, visitors walk barefoot, etc.). Earthing helps stabilizing natural electrical rhythms of a human and decreases risk of inflammations. Another new trend is spa centres is “spa-genomics”. This is a personalized approach that is based on genes and DNA code. As studies show, some part of DNA can be repaired to gain a good mood, reduce stress, and enjoy better health and sleep.
While new technologies and achievements come to hotel spa centres, centuries-proven techniques never lose their popularity. Such medical systems as Ayurveda, herbal medicine, and other ancient revivals will become even more authentic in 2013.
When it comes to describing beauty salons in spa centres, here the main trends are all kinds of ombre hair, various body art for visitors of every gender and age, and elegant nail art with less bling (3D art, nuanced textures or small paintings). Of course, as we live in the era of “a massively graying population”, various treatments and services will be targeted at people in their 40s, 50s and older.
