Global pipeline stats for October 2011 have become available thanks to STR Global. According to them Asia Pacific is the highest developing region of the world (except for the US) with 1,373 hotels under construction. The total number of guestrooms in pipeline estimates 327,630.
Hotels in New Delhi feature the largest growth – over 10 thousand guestrooms are being built here at the moment. Among other destinations that attract hotel developers are Mumbai, Manila, Jakarta, and Bali.
What about other regions of the world?
European pipeline enumerates 841 hotels (the total number of guestrooms is 134,437). This year 207 hotels were opened in Europe. Other 72 will be opened until the end of the year. In 2012 the hotel market of the region will be expanded with 298 new hotels. Economy and upscale segments dominate in the pipeline for Europe.
471 hotels are to be opened in the Middle East and Africa. Here the biggest number of new hotels will be opened in the upper upscale segment (over 30%). The Central/South Africa, and The Caribbean/Mexico have 198 and 134 hotels in pipeline respectively.
