Disney has rejected its plans about the opening of a so called Dubailand resort. Gossips concerning the building of a resort and an entertainment center in Dubai have appeared some time ago. It has been reported that Disney may act as a partner, cooperating with a local company. When the rumors reached Disney, the company made an announcement, telling the company had no plans of building or managing a hotel in the Middle East.
The representative of Disney Company has made an interview to Arabian Business, stating the company currently is not in the process of working over a hotel in Dubai. Disney considers the Middle East in general and Dubai in particular a prospective market, but at the moment the company has no interest in this region.
Dubailand is a grandiose project originally developed by Dubai Properties Group. The cost of the project estimates US$91 billion. The original plan includes the building of a huge entertainment park that will be two times bigger than Walt Disney World Resort. For this purpose Dubai Properties Group has concluded agreements with Six Flags, Legoland and Universal Studios. However, this project is on hold starting from 2008 due to financial crisis.
According to Business Monitor, a company specializing in researches for hotel industry, Dubai Properties Group will have to downsize the project to make it fit current difficulties and realities of the local market.
