Airport location, terminals and transportation
Indianapolis International Airport is situated 10 km southwest of the business centre of Indianapolis. This air terminal has become the main one in Indiana. The history of the airport dates back to 1931. In 1944, it was renamed Weir Cook Municipal Airport in honour of US Army Air Forces Colonel Harvey Weir Cook. In 1976, it was renamed Indianapolis Airport again. In 2008, the new terminal was named the Colonel Harvey Weir Cook Terminal. The annual passenger traffic of the airport amounts to about 9 million people. It encompasses 3 runways and 1 new terminal, which replaced several old ones. This terminal was designed and built after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
The city of Indianapolis, the airport and nearby universities are connected by regular buses (IndyGo company offers about 30 routes to different destinations in Marion County and Indianapolis), taxi services, transfer and limousines, car rental services, services of network companies (Uber and Lyft), and electric vehicle exchange service (BlueIndy). Free transfers to the hotels and car rental companies are available.

Ten credible car rental companies provide their services at Indianapolis International Airport. The clients of such companies as Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty conclude a rental agreement and pick up their leased vehicles in the Ground Transportation Center of the airport, which is placed on the first floor of the parking garage, located in the Terminal. You should climb down the escalator from the arrival area (from the baggage claim hall) and go across the pedestrian crossing to the parking garage, following the signs. Such firms as ACE and Sixt also offer their services to customers. In order to take advantage of the services of these companies, you may contact them by the phone number, indicated on the information boards in the Ground Transportation Center. The call can be made in Zone 1, near the Ground Transport Center. These companies offer a free shuttle service to the car collection location.
Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby
IND offers several convenient parking options, which include hourly and daily parking lots, a car park within walking distance and economy parking. The parking garage of the terminal comprises hourly (at the third level) and daily parking (at all the levels). Each of the parking options offers ways to become included in the parkIND Plus Program and have the ability to earn free parking in the future. Passengers can turn to the Guest Assistance Service (Civic Plaza, behind the Ticket Hall) with questions about parking. Valet parking services are provided in the parking garage of the terminal, at the third level.
Passengers are taken to most of the hotels located within a 10-kilometre radius by free shuttles of these establishments. The nearest hotels to the airport are the Crowne Plaza Hotel, the Baymont Inn & Suites Plainfield, the Comfort Inn, the Indianapolis Airport, the Fairfield Inn & Suites, the Hilton Garden Inn, the Holiday Inn, the Hyatt Place and others.
