Airport location, terminals and transportation
William P. Hobby Airport is the oldest civilian airport of Huston. It is located just a kilometre south of the city centre. It was founded in the 30s of the previous century. At present it is the second largest airport of Huston after George Bush Intercontinental Airport. It is a regional basic airport for private and corporate aviation. It is mainly meant for domestic flights across the country, but does service international flights. The passenger traffic amounts to 10 million people a year. The airport has 4 runways and one Central Terminal with 26 gates. It got its modern name from one of the Governors of Texas.
It is pretty easy to get to the city centre from the airport. SuperShuttle and taxi depart from arrival area 1. It is better to book tickets for the shuttle in advance. The urban underground can be reached by bus. After the luggage is proceeded in the arrival area, you should get into area 3, being guided by the signs. Bus number 40 will take you to the city centre, where George R. Brown Convention Center is situated. Buses to other destinations leave from the arrival area 4.
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
Car rental offices are situated at the ground level of the terminal (in the arrival area). You should proceed from the baggage claim area in the direction of the escalator and the staircase that lead to the passage to the Red Parking. The counters of such major international companies as Advantage, Avis, Budget, Dollar, and Enterprise are located next to the staircase. The desks of Alamo, Hertz, National, Thrifty, and Payless are found from across, beside the escalator. Various cars ranging from reasonably priced ones to premium-class vehicles are available. Car rental facilities do not work 24 hours a day, they have breaks during the night. However, this does not apply to such companies as Avis and Budget, because their offices operate round the clock.
Provisional booking through the online service will let you minimize the expenses for renting a car. Payment should be made by credit car both when booking online and making your reservation at the office. The places of receiving and returning a vehicle as well as some additional options (for example,a navigator, a dashboard camera, a baby seat and so on) are specified when processing the order. In most cases, you can receive your leased car in the parking lot in the territory of the terminal. You can get to the sites, where you will receive your vehicle, by a special shuttle, which departs from arrival area 1. You should just follow the signs "Rental Car Shuttles".
Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby
Two multi-level indoor car parks are located next to the terminal. They are the Blue parking lot and the Red parking lot. The valet-parking service is offered in the Red parking lot. The two car parks are connected by passages, and there are also several passages leading to the terminal. Bicycle and motorcycle parking is provided in the territory of Eco Parking. Besides, charging stations for electric vehicles are available there.
