Airport location, terminals and transportation
Rio de Janeiro Galeao International Airport (or Rio de Janeiro Galeao Tom Jobim International Airport) is a leading airport that services the capital of Brazil. The airport was named after one of the Brazilian beaches. There had been the Naval Academy of Brazil at the site of the airport before. In 1993, the airport was renamed. Its name perpetuated the name of the Brazilian musician Antonio Jobim. In 2014, as the airport operator changed, its name changed too, so it is called Tom Jobim International Airport now. The airport annually services over 16 million passengers. There are two air-strips. In the territory of the airport, there is the base of the Brazil Air Force in the former passenger terminal. The airport is 20 km from the center of the capital.
From the airport, you can reach the city by two types of taxi: blue cars (F-class), and yellow cars (usual ones). You can take a taxi in the Arrival terminal. Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
At the airport, you can rent a car. Car rental services are provided by several international and two local companies: Avis, Hertz, Localiza, Unidas, and Movida. The information desks of these companies are located on the ground floor in the first terminal. To find service points, you need to go out of the baggage claim concourse and go to the ext from the terminal through the escalator. The stands are located near the exit A from the passenger terminal.
Cars are taken and returned to the parking area in front of the terminal. These companies don’t limit the daily mileage of their cars. They follow the “full fuel tank” policy. When the rental contract is executed, the insurance in the event of car theft or traffic accident is included in it. The rental cost also includes airport fees.
Such companies, as Movida and Unidas, offer their clients a free transfer to a place where they can take a car.
