Most of excursion routes start at the beautiful Zocalo Square. This is the place where the famous cathedral Nuestra Senora de la Soledad is located. The cathedral has become one of the symbols of the city. Originally it was the main protective facility and had been repeatedly saving the city from pirate attacks. Nowadays the chateau has been converted into a historical museum. In addition to the valuable historical documents the exhibition of the museum includes unique archaeological artifacts. The Chapel of Peace is a no less remarkable construction. This is the highest point of the city. There is a large observation deck next to a beautiful old castle, which has miraculously survived till the present days. The complete city is visible from that point. The panoramic views are perfectly combined with magnificent snow-capped peaks, which can be seen on the horizon. Next to the Chapel of Peace is located another unusual monument - a huge cross, which height estimates 401 meters. It is believed that the cross brings good luck to seafarers and protects them from nature disasters.
