Thailand keeps the leadership as the most popular vacation destination with the Finns. This information has been published by the Association of Finnish Travel Agents AFTA recently. The tropical destination remains the leader this year as well with roughly 48,000 trips to be made during the coming winter season. Travelers from the Nordic country are also interested in other exotic destinations such as Africa in general and North Africa in particular.
Last year, Finnish tourists made as many as 6.1 million overnight leisure trips to foreign counties. That is more than the total population of the country that was almost 5.5 million people in 2016. As members of the Matka Nordic Travel Fair 2018, which will take place in Helsinki on January 17 to 21 2018, mention, there is a definite growth in the popularity of travel in the country. The exhibition is already drawing much attention as people will be able to find more information about the most popular destinations. It is also reported that people become increasingly interested in long-haul destinations, such as Asia, Australia, Africa, and America.
Not only hotels in Thailand benefit from travelers from Finland. Nordic travelers want to learn more information about even more exotic destinations, for example, south of the Sahara. Such destinations as Madagascar, South Africa, Rwanda, Seychelles, Uganda, and Morocco will send their representatives to the Matka Nordic Travel Fair 2018 to promote vacations in their countries. Madagascar will even show a presentation about the breath-taking nature of the country at the Inspiration stage of the fair.
The fair is going to be a really fun place to visit as many countries promise to show something special. For example, Cuba will bring a 12-person band that will perform at the exhibition. India prepares a special presentation that covers the country’s UNESCO world heritage sites there are currently 36 of them. There will also be representatives from Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, the UAE, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Dominican Republic, and many more.
Finland’s own hospitality industry, in its turn, also keeps struggling to attract more foreigners to the country. Visit Finland has even prepared a new fun DNA generator that offers everyone in the world to “discover their inner Finn”. All that visitors need to do is to put in birthplaces of their parents and they will be assigned to one of the 311 municipalities of the country. The generator uses the latitude of one parents’ birthplace and the longitude of the other.
