Resorts World Manila, a popular tourist complex in the capital of the Philippines, was closed after a tragic event. A lone gunman started making shots from a rifle and then set flame to gambling tables. Reportedly, 37 people died from the incident. They were killed by the fire and smoke and died because of suffocation.
The majority of the victims were women who died in the bathroom. All of the dead people were found in the casino part of Resort World Manila. Later it was announced that 20 guests and 13 staff members died because of fire, and more than 70 people were injured. Initially, ISIS claimed it was a terrorist act and they were responsible for it, but later that claim was found false. Right after the incident, the gunman was suspected to be a foreigner as he was tall, white, and talked English. However, later it was announced that the gunman was a local. The man made big debts because of gambling, and so he decided to rob the casino. He ended up stealing gaming chips worth approximately 113 million pesos (nearly US$2.3 million), but the chips were later discovered by the police. Most probably, the attacker didn’t expect the situation unfold in such a way. He was planning to use fire to distract the casino stuff, but the fire spread too quickly, claiming lives of many people. The gunman was shot and wounded by the security. He was able to reach the fifth floor of the building, where he lied on a bed, poured gasoline and shot himself. The man was found dead and completely burned.
