The Rezidor Hotel Group has made a milestone step for its soon to open hotel in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The company has appointed the first female general manager in the industry. She will be responsible for the Park Inn by Radisson Jeddah.
This is a step forward in the career of Maram Kokandi, who studied hospitality in the United Kingdom and then moved back to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to pursue her career in the industry. The appointment is in line with the new Saudi Vision 2030, which was launched last year. This program emphasizes the importance of Saudi women and their role in the development of the Kingdom. According to Rezidor, they are interested in empowering women leadership at their hotels and think the first female hotel GM will encourage other women in the country to make a career at hospitality.
There is a definite progress when it comes to describing the potential and career prospects of Saudi Arabian women, and it is particularly seen in the hospitality industry. In Rezidor only, there were only 6 female employees in 2014. In 2017, the hotelier has 84 Saudi women working for the company, with 12 women occupying leadership positions.
Saudi Arabia is one of the key hotel markets for the Rezidor Hotel Group. The hotelier has 30 hotels in the country with more than 6,000 rooms operating and in the pipeline.
