Travellers, who are concerned about the food they eat, and claim only the best and cleanest products, will certainly enjoy their visit in Kirimaya Mountain Retreat that is located in Khao Yai in Thailand. The resort, which is actually a combination of two resorts Muthi Maya and Kirimaya, has opened its onsite farm with organic products.
Currently, the organic farm has 160 blocks of plants. All plants are watered by a “drip irrigation” system, according to which water is added to the surface of the soil. This helps strictly monitoring moisture level of the soil and, thus, controlling the growth of weed without applying dangerous chemicals. The resort wants to grow enough herbs and vegetables, so that it would cover 100% of the resort’s needs.
The culinary director of Kirimaya, David Bedinghaus, has even launched a worm farm, where he grows African Red Worms. These worms are known as efficient natural fertilizers that increase the mineral level of the soil and help yielding better harvest.
The launch of worm and vegetable farms has also brought one more advantage. Now fruit and vegetable peelings from the kitchen of the resort are mixed with dry leaves in order to create natural and absolutely harmless compost that is also rich in minerals. This way the resort has managed to reduce its organic waste by 75%! Once the peelings are mixed with dry leaves, they are fermented for 21 days. During this natural process a 100% natural fertilizer is made. The fertilizer is then used on the farm.
