August was particularly successful for hotels in London as they registered the record-breaking growth of Gross Operating profit per Available Room (GOPPAR) of 107.3%. The games were a huge boost for the hotel market of the UK capital.
As it is mentioned in the latest HotStats survey by TRI Hospitality Consulting, August was a truly unique month for hotels in London. They were able to raise their room rates and still benefit from high occupancy. The average daily rate added 48.9% in August. This made total revenue per available room (TRevPAR) grow by 47.6%. Hotels benefited from not only room bookings, but also food and beverage, and conference revenues.
Such a strong August was the necessary remedy for hotels in London after relatively weak June and July. Now the picture of revenues for this year looks very optimistic as well. The year-to-date GOPPAR features the growth of 9.1%. Compare it to July and its increase of just 0.7%.
Of course, once the games are over, the growth of London hotel market will slow down, but strong August will surely make its positive influence on 2012 stats.
