Hotels in Israel will amaze travellers by their incredibly low rates this winter. According to Etty Levy, the CEO of Prima Hotels and the chairman of the Israel Hotel Managers Association, due to economic recession in Europe and the US the rates for winter 2011-2012 will be definitely lower than for the previous one. As the forecasts for incoming tourism in Israel are quite modest, this winter rates may be approximately 16% down. Another reason for lowered attractiveness of the country from the side of international tourists is the unrest between Israel and Iran. People are simply afraid of spending their vacations in this country and select safer destinations.
According to Levy, she has got the data concerning the bookings for first months of 2012. The bookings are quite modest and many travellers may even cancel them due to ongoing economic instability. Of course, in such situation hotels have no options left but to decrease their rates. January-February may become especially tough months.
However, decrease in hotel rates only cannot bring new tourists to the country or its effect will be poor. The government and the Ministry of Tourism should start advertising campaigns in the US and Europe aimed to improve the images of the country. Israel is rich in historic and religious sights, and winter in this country is warm and much more comfortable than in the regions mentioned above.
