Accor, a famous European hotelier, has announced the launch of hotels in India under three new brands. All accommodations are set to open by the end of 2011. This will increase the total number of Accor’s hotels in India up to 6.
As Even Lewis, the vice-president of Accor Asia Pacific Communications, has told PTI, currently only Novotel and Mercure hotels operate in India. However, the company wants to expand on this highly popular market, so soon Sofitel, Formule 1 and Pullman hotels will be presented in India.
India is currently a key market for many hoteliers and Accor is not an exception. In order to increase the presence of the company there, Accor has chosen an aggressive strategy. Starting from 2005 Accor has invested as much as US$250 million in the development of hotels in India.
No details concerning the new hotels are available at the moment. Currently the total inventory of Accor in India estimates 1,684 guestrooms. A year ago Accor announced its plans concerning the development in India – 90 hotels by 2015. By the end of 2012 may start operating 21 hotels.
Accor considers projects that involve investment or building new properties, but the company is primarily interested in operating properties. The main partner of Accor in India is InterGlobe, which hotels are run under Novotel and Mercure brands. Another partner of the famous hotelier is Pacifica Partners.
