Hotels in South and Southeast Asia are definitely feeling better than ever. According to the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) the increase of international visitors to the countries of this region estimated 4% during five months of 2011. The total increase of visitors is even more impressive - +15% for South Asia countries and +12% for Southeast Asia.
May results were the best comparing to other months. 16% more people visited Southeast Asia during this month. This has become possible thanks to hotels in Thailand and strong demand for hotels in Myanmar and Vietnam.
Countries of Pacific and Northeast Asia didn’t show any increase in the number or visitors. The decline here estimated 0.6% and this was mostly led by the rapid decline in demand for hotels in Japan (-50% visitors). Japanese visitors also travelled less frequently. However, PATA thinks that this situation in Japan has a temporary character and it will get better in the nearest future.
The experts of PATA also name main reasons of the popularity of Southeast Asia. China and India are currently most dynamically developing countries, so the number of tourists only increases there. This causes both raise in in-country tourism and trips to neighboring locations. It is also forecasted that this positive trend may remain for the second half of the year.
