Sofitel Will Open a Hotel in Yunnan Province, China

Sofitel Luxury Hotels has revealed its plans concerning the opening of a hotel in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province. The 405-key property is scheduled to start operating in the beginning of 2014.

In this deal the hotelier will act as a managing organization, while the owner of the property is Kunming Iron & Steel Holding Co. Ltd. The accommodation will be located in a large 50-storey building, in which 28 floors will be dedicated to the hotel. The headquarters of KunSteel, the mother company of Kunming Iron & Steel’s, will occupy the rest of the building. The tower has an advantageous location in the center of the city, so the accommodation may be subject to interest for either business or leisure travellers.

On the territory of the hotel will be also located three restaurants and several bars, a spa center, a fitness center, a lounge zone, an indoor swimming pool, a business center with eight meeting rooms, and a grand ballroom.

The president of Sofitel Asia Pacific Markland Blaiklock has mentioned the importance of this deal as Kunming is the largest city in the Southeast China. This is also an important cultural and economic destination. Together with this project Sofitel Luxury Hotels increases the number of projects in China to 27 properties. The future properties managed by this company include hotels in Sanya, Haikou and Lianyungang.
