This is a small and cozy Greek town that will be exceptionally attractive to fans of quiet rest and comfort. Many people call Pylos "a little Switzerland". The reason for this is in the fact that the town’s small houses with white facades, which are surrounded by lush greenery and flower beds, really look like streets of Switzerland. In addition to visiting beautiful beaches, parks, and restaurants guests can visit several places of interest and get acquainted with the history of the city. Neokastro Castle founded in 1573is one of the largest buildings in this town. Originally the castle served as a protective facility. The top of the castle is decorated with an acropolis, and its territory is also the location of an ancient Transfiguration Church. After the conquering of the town by the Turks the gothic church was converted into a mosque. The tower of Palekastro Castle is considered the highest point of Pylos. This is another protective facility, which was built in 1278.
The town and its suburbs are a real treasure for archaeologists. During the excavations many valuable artifacts were found in this place. Nowadays you can see these items in the local archaeological museum. Here you will find a collection of ancient clay tablets, tableware and amphorae.
