Airport location, terminals and transportation
Vancouver International Airport is located on Sea Island in Richmond, Canada. It is considered one of the main air terminals of the country by traffic, as its terminals serve more than 17 million people a year. The airport was built in 1929. This modern air facility consists of three terminals. The Domestic and International Terminals are connected and, combined, are often referred to as the Main Terminal. The South Terminal (also referred to as Airport South) is situated in another part of the airport. It mainly handles domestic flights. Courtesy shuttles transport passengers between the South Terminal and the other two terminals. Besides, seaplane service is available. The airport operates 4 runways.
The airport is linked to Downtown Vancouver and Downtown Richmond by the Canada Line rapid transit rail system. This rapid transit line passes through the station placed between the two terminals, which are the Domestic and International Terminals. Coaches depart from the stops next to the terminals. Limousine, taxi (Level 2 of the arrival area) and car sharing services are available.
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
In order to rent a car, one should proceed to the parkade opposite the terminal. The offices of the car rental companies (Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Thrifty, Hertz, National, and Zipcar) are found on the first floor of the parkade.
At the airport, the companies may provide cars for people with disabilities. So as to get such a vehicle, one should make a reservation from the selected company at least 48 hours in advance. The companies operating at the airport include a customer facility charge in the rental cost.
The passengers of Vancouver International Airport can use the car rental services of such companies as Enterprise, Discount car and Routes. They can get to the car rental facilities of these companies by the courtesy shuttles provided from the curbside Courtesy Shuttle zones.
There is the only car rental company in the South Terminal, which is National. The service outlet is positioned on the first arrival level of the terminal, opposite the baggage carousel. Rental vehicles are collected from the parking lot of the South Terminal.
Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby
Parking spaces are provided at Vancouver International Airport in Value Long-Term Parking Lot, jetSet Parking Lot and the Parkade. Valet parking is located curbside near the terminals. A free shuttle service is available to and from jetSet Parking Lot. One can reach the economy parking lot by trains which run from the airport to Templeton Station or by free shuttle service. Advance booking guarantees the availability of a necessary parking space. Furthermore, there are various parking programs and promotions.
In addition, hourly, daily and weekly parking lots are set beside the South Terminal.
Hotel courtesy shuttle buses provide transportation to the majority of hotels nestled in the vicinity of the airport. They depart from the two terminals. The nearest hotels in Richmond are the Abercorn Inn, the Days Inn, the Four Points By Sheraton, the Holiday Inn and others. In Vancouver, passengers of the airport may take advantage of the services of the Coast Hotel.
