IHG Announces the First Regent Hotel after the Change of Owner

IHG has recently signed a management agreement regarding the opening of a Regent hotel in Shanghai, China. The property currently operates under another name, Shanghai 21st Century Hotel. It enjoys a prime location in Lujiazui. The rebranding of the property will happen already in May 16, 2020. After that, the hotel will be officially called the Regent Shanghai Pudong.

Clients, who already have reservations at this hotel, do not need to worry as all bookings are automatically forwarded. The new Regent hotel in Shanghai will offer the iconic and luxury guest experience that this brand is famous for. The hotelier promises to deliver its “intuitive” service and personalized approach. The tower, in which the hotel is open, also has premium apartments on higher floors. According to the deal, IHG will also take care of these apartments.

Regent Hotels and Resorts is an established company that became a part of the IHG family in March 2018, after the acquisition of the majority stake. Known for its luxury hotels and tailored services, Regent was a good deal for IHG. The latter required a high-end hotel brand in its portfolio to order the full specter of services for all guests. After the brand acquisition, IHG has been working actively with Regent. Using its expertise in the global hospitality market, IHG tried to cherish the heritage and legacy of the legendary brand and at the same time make Regent hotels more suitable and fitting the demands of modern luxury travelers.

The newly rebranded hotel in Shanghai offers spectacular views of the city’s financial district, Lujiazui. This will also be the first Regent hotel in the world that IHG opens after the acquisition of the brand in 2018. Besides Regent Shanghai Pudong, the company will rebrand its InterContinental hotel in Hong Kong. The hotel is already under renovation and is set to reopen as a Regent-branded property in 2021. The change is highly anticipated because this hotel initially opened its doors in 1980 as a Regent hotel.

Later this year, IHG will also open a hotel in Phu Quoc, Vietnam. The next Regent hotels are set to open in Bali (Indonesia) in 2021, Chengdu (China) in 2023, and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) in 2023. The Regent Shanghai hotel, which opens next month, will represent the legendary brand in Greater China. IHG hopes to announce more Regent hotels in the future in the best destinations around the world.
