Football is such a popular game that it affects many spheres of economy, and hospitality is no exception. With event and sports tourism on a rise, many modern travelers make both domestic and international trips to support their favorite team. This is how sports clubs become very important for the economy of their home cities.
This year, Real Madrid has once again become the most valuable football brand in the world with a value of 1.646 billion euro. This information is indicated in the latest report by Brand Finance. It is followed by Manchester United (1.472 billion euro). Among football brands that cost more than 1 billion, there are also Barcelona (1.393 billion euro), Bayern Munich (1.314 billion euro), Manchester City (1.255 billion euro), and Liverpool (1.191 billion euro). These six clubs have almost 40% of the total brand value of the most popular football clubs in the world.
Real Madrid has become the most expensive football club brand in the world for the first time since 2010. The club has been performing particularly well in recent years since its value jumped by almost 27% in 2018. Real Madrid also managed to earn more than 750 million euro in 2017-2018. The 2018-2019 season is not so successful, however, since the club failed to win the UEFA Champions League and lost their star forward Cristiano Ronaldo who moved to Juventus in Italy.
That being said, Madrid hotels and the city in general benefit from this popularity of their football club. The home stadium of the team, Santiago Bernabeu, was ranked the #1 stadium among the Top 50 football brands’ stadia. Its score is 74.3 out of 100, so each time the stadium hosts a football game, Madrid becomes filled with guests. Fans also praise high capacity and comfortable amphitheater of Santiago Bernabeu. This year, an ambitious redevelopment program for the stadium was announced so it may become even more functional and exciting to visit in future.
Two German stadia were also named best in other categories. Football fans love visiting Dortmund, the home city of Borussia, as the club’s stadium is #1 in Matchday Experience. The venue offers excellent sightlines and acoustics, so it is particularly exciting to see football games there. Finally, almost every UEFA fan has at least once booked a hotel in Munich and visited Allianz Arena, the home stadium of Bayern Munich. Its iconic design and comfort have made this venue #1 for Broadcaster & Partner Appeal.
