Four Seasons to Open Its First Hotel on Okinawa

News Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, which is also known as the leading luxury hotelier in the world, will finally mark its presence on the Japanese island of Okinawa. It will be the first hotel on Okinawa in the portfolio of the famous company. This time, Four Seasons will partner with Malaysian group Berjaya Land Berhad. Together, the companies will build a fabulous resort that will certainly draw the attention of tourists once it is open.

According to the master plan, the new property will operate as Four Seasons Resort and Private Residences Okinawa. It will enjoy a truly unique location on 100 acres, which is more than 40 hectares, of a beachfront area along the west coast of the island. The distance to the closest airport, Naha International Airport, will be 50 kilometers (31 miles). A fast highway will connect the hotel to the airport and popular landmarks of the island. The development land area of the new project is approximately 12 hectares. There will be a hotel with 120 spacious guestrooms, 40 luxurious villas, and 120 residences.

In line with the hotelier’s plans, it will take approximately four years to complete this ambitious project. The cost of the project is high, as expected from a luxurious development like this. The estimated gross development is roughly US$1 billion. The cost of building works will be around US$400 million. Without a doubt, it is a truly exceptional project, so Four Seasons needed a partner. The company collaborated with Berjaya Group in the past over another property in Japan. The hotelier hopes that more and more residents and foreign guests will be able to experience the exceptional quality of Four Seasons. The Okinawa hotel will not only have a fantastic location and comfort but also unparalleled service and customization.

EDSA Inc is the company behind the development of the planning and landscape architecture of the new resort. Kengo Kuma and Kuniken, internationally renowned Japanese architects, also work over this project. Kuniken is the largest architecture firm in Okinawa. Kengo Kuma has become famous globally not long ago – he is the person behind the design of the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo for the 2020 Olympic Games.

When developing the master plan for the new resort, beautiful nature and cultural heritage of Okinawa were the top priorities. Even though the project is big, it will be easier to navigate. Guests and owners of residences will be able to reach absolutely all amenities by foot, golf cars or bicycles. There will also be a beach club with a natural beach, retail shops, public gardens, dining establishments, and much more.
