A traditional Japanese inn is something that the majority of travelers would find interesting to visit, but local hoteliers are open to everything new and enjoy turning innovative ideas into reality. KAI Sengokuhara is set to open in the end of July, but the hotel has already drawn the attention of the public. Hoshino Resorts, the managing organization of the new hotel, offers a fantastic crossover between a modern art gallery and a traditional Japanese inn. Once it is open, the new Tokyo hotel will become the first art based hot spring ryokan not only in Japan but also in the world.
The new hotel will have 16 luxurious rooms, each of which comes with an exclusive hot spring pool. All baths will be located outdoors, on a spacious terrace. As the Tokyo ryokan doesn’t have its own hot spring, the water will be delivered from the Owakudani volcanic valley famous for its springs. Water from hot springs is widely recognized and praised for its healing properties. It can cure skin diseases, lessen pain, and has an overall rejuvenating effect on the human body.
The luxurious Tokyo hotel will enjoy a prime location in the district of Hakone. KAI Sengokuhara will become the 15th hotel managed by Hoshino Resorts and the second KAI-branded hotel in Hakone. The hotel is located in a simply gorgeous area near the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park that is protected by the government. KAI Sengokuhara is approximately 700 meters above the sea level and within a short distance of the Hakone Gora area. This makes it a perfect choice for everyone who wants to enjoy long walks and admire the picturesque nature. The countryside vibe is perfect for relaxing from the big city stress.
Both public areas and guest rooms feature art pieces and installations created by Japanese and international artists. In order to create a property that would fit the surrounding landscape, designers generously used local materials, such as stone and wood. The result is really worth the effort the hotel looks impressive and fits in beautifully.
It takes approximately two hours to reach the hotel from Tokyo by car. KAI Sengokuhara has English speaking staff for foreign guests and offers a library full of books on the culture, art, history, and geography of the area. The hotel serves traditional Japanese food and uses a lot of locally sourced ingredients. Water gardens throughout the property make it look even more charming and add a visual delight.
