European hotel industry had a successful second month of spring and reached increases in all the three key metrics. The latest data by STR Global throws the light upon the hospitality industry of the region. In April 2018, the average occupancy of European hotels added 1.5% to 73.2% in total. The average daily rate grew by 2.9% to 108.03 euro, and RevPAR increased by 4.4% to 79.13 euro.
The year-on-year comparison of the key hotel metrics on a country level is the following. Hotels in Italy enjoyed higher occupancy by 1.1% to 72.9% in total. The average daily rate was also growing and added 1.6% to EUR149.96. Naturally, this made RevPAR grow as well the metric grew by 2.8% in April 2018 vs April 2017 to EUR109.32. April was definitely a good month for the hospitality industry of the country. According to the data provided by STR, the absolute occupancy of Italian hotels was the highest for April on record. The average daily rate was also the highest for April since 2007.
Milan hotels enjoyed a prosperous month thanks to annual and biannual trade fairs. One event, Bit International Travel Exhibition, took place in February this year instead of traditional April. However, the city welcomed two other events, namely, EuroCucina and Salone Internazionale del Mobile. The influx of guests to the Italian city helped hotels to stabilize and even enjoy profits.
Switzerland hotels posted a significant growth of occupancy in April 2018 - +7.9% to 62.5% in total. Unfortunately, ADR was falling and lost 1.1% to CHF188.30. That said, the growing occupancy helped hotels to enjoy higher revenues, and so RevPAR added 6.7% to CHF117.72. The absolute ADR result was the lowest for any April since 2008. The high revenue level was maintained by the three bank holidays - Näfelser Fahrt, Easter Monday, and Sechseläuten.
The last but not the least, Poland hotels experienced another prosperous month in April 2018. The occupancy added 1.7% to 72.3% in total, the average daily rate added solid 5.4% to PLN295.96. Naturally, RevPAR was positive as well the growth estimated 7.2% to PLN213.87. Hotels in Poland enjoyed the highest April result since 2007. According to experts, this strong performance was partially caused by the shift of Easter holidays. The increased business demand made the month more profitable for hotels in large cities across Poland and helped them to reach higher profit levels.
