Movenpick Hotels & Resorts continues expanding its Middle East portfolio and announces the partnership with Karan Gulf Services. Together, the companies will open a hotel in the industrial city of Wa’ad Al Shamal. The new hotel will have 237 rooms, which will make it the largest hotel in Wa’ad Al Shamal City and in the entire northern region of the KSA.
Wa’ad Al Shamal is a relatively new city, which covers the area of 450 sq. kilometers on the northern frontier of the country. Currently, around 100,000 people live in Wa’ad Al Shamal. Located 30 kilometers from Turaif, the city is actively supported by global players in the phosphate mining industry. According to the Vision 2030 program, the mineral industry is set to become the third pillar of Saudi Arabia’s economy after oil and petrochemical.
The new hotel will greet its first guests in 2018. Movenpick Hotel Wa’ad Al Shamal will be mostly targeted at business travelers, but the hotelier promises “a resort feel” for the new accommodation. Besides meeting and event space that are traditional for a business hotel, Movenpick Hotel Wa’ad Al Shamal will have three food and beverage outlets and separate wellness centers for men and women. After opening, the hotel will become the first international upscale hotel in the north of the kingdom. The hotel will also provide jobs for approximately 100 local residents.
Movenpick Hotels & Resorts is not a new player on the hospitality market of Saudi Arabia as the hotelier already operates 11 hotels in the country with five more to open in just three years. These will be hotels in Al Khobar, Jeddah, Riyadh and Wa’ad Al Shamal.
