If you have ever dreamed of staying in a real medieval castle, the UK might be the best option. Many hotels in Ireland are open in real old castles. Ashford Castle is one of them. Built in the 12th century, this castle has been turned into a hotel, but as it is not easy to provide all modern services in an old building, the castle was closed for an extensive renovation. Now it is ready to welcome guests again, and the upgraded hotel has a gym and a new spa.
It took two years to complete the restoration. Now the bronze observatory that was designed by Philippe Bonino, famous French architect, has an indoor resistance pool. While swimming, guests can enjoy beautiful views of Lough Corrib. The central part of the pool hall is decorated with beautiful mosaic depicting a tree. The ceramic mosaic is called the Tree of Life and it was created by Jane Du Rand, mosaic artist from South Africa. The choice of the theme is not random as the Tree of Life is an oak, a sacred tree for Celts who considered it a source of wisdom. There are magical creatures on the branches of the tree. These creatures are also typical for Celtic mythology.
The new spa centre was made in mostly gray, cream and green colors. The upgraded facility got new treatment rooms, a steam room, an area for manicure and pedicure, an outdoor terrace, a hammam, and a relaxation zone. Gym got new equipment and now it is possible to do workouts with a personal trainer.
