The famous five-star hotel in London, Claridge’s on Mayfair, has received a permission to build what they call “the biggest basement in Britain”.
The basement is 20,000 sq. ft. large and will have five floors. The grandiose development will include a spa, a sauna, a large swimming pool, own bakery, a wine cellar and even an in-house chocolatier! The building, which is listed as a Grade II one, will also get two extra floors on the roof. This space will be used to make 40 extra guestrooms. Such an ambitious plan was approved by Westminster City Council in the beginning of December. The decision was quite unexpected as previously the council was quite pessimistic about so-called “super basements” in the heart of London. However, this time it was decided to green light the application based on the fact that the historic building of Claridge’s is already on a major refurbishment.
The hotel’s management is very happy with the approval as now they will be able to add a modern spa that will help Claridge’s stay a top class five-star hotel that meets all modern standards. They promise to add more modern and sustainable technology that will help both hotel guests and locals enjoy better services and will bring the hotel on a new level.
