Hilton Worldwide is testing new types of rooms that will be harder to cancel in selected hotels around the world. The rooms of new type are already available for booking and are marked as Semi-Flex or Prepay Restricted. Guestrooms of this type are offered on special rates.
The Semi-Flex guestrooms can be cancelled up to seven days before the check-in date, but in order to cancel the booking, guests will need to pay a fee. The Prepay Restricted guestrooms are offered on special price, but they are nonrefundable and unchangeable.
Hilton considers this step a way to make their guestrooms more customizable. Rooms with the abovementioned options provide greater value and more choices for guests of Hilton hotels. This is not the first attempt to make it harder to cancel reservations. Last year, Hilton charged guests a fee of US$50 in case of cancelation. Even though customers hated it, that initiative gave the company “a better idea of future changes”. In future, Hilton plans to make a system of flexible and inflexible rates, different prices and airline type price fluctuations.
The upgraded guestroom rates reflect the new policy. A full price of one-bedroom non-smoking suite at the Hampton Inn & Suites Boynton Beach for October 2016 is US$144 per night. The cost of the same guestroom using Semi-Flex rate is US$138, and under The Prepay Restricted condition the guestroom is offered even lower US$122 per night.
