Collectors of antiques and historic items simply cannot miss this event. Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo is organizing an auction where it will sell more than 4,000 lots. That way the iconic hotel clears space and prepares for a major refurbishment.
The list of guests who stayed at this hotel includes many prominent figures. Sir Winston Churchill, Princess Grace of Monaco, many Hollywood stars the hotel has a truly glittering history. Sir Winston Churchill loved this hotel so much that he spent every winter there. Naturally, during its long history, the hotel retained many precious items. Ever since its opening in 1864, the hotel has been a popular place that always attracted many rich and famous people.
Almost everything in the hotel will soon go under the hammer, starting from décor elements like chandeliers to bathrobes and even the famous piano that stood in the American Bar. The auction is already called by the general manager of the hotel Luca Allegri an “emotional event”.
The history of the hotel includes some very interesting facts. For example, in 1952, the wedding of Errol Flynn took place in the Empire Room. The wedding was notable for a giant cake weighing 77lb. Among frequent guests of the hotel were Cary Grant and Rita Hayworth, and Sir Winston Churchill liked to occupy a sixth floor apartment. His parakeet could fly freely around the room until one day it flew out of an open window and was not found despite all attempts of the hotel staff. Items from the suit, which is named after the honorable guest, are also available for sale. Refurbishment works in the iconic hotel are set to end in 2018.
