Mandarin Oriental Hotel, an iconic hotel in Manila, the capital of Philippines, will be closed this year after 38 years of glorious history. The sad news appeared recently in an official announcement by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.
The property located on Makati Avenue has always been known as one of most famous and legendary hotels in the city. The hotel started operating in 1976. All colleagues and partners of the hotel were informed of the closure, and travellers who like Mandarin Oriental brand don’t need to be sad as the company will open another luxury hotel that will be located in Makati City.
The new mandarin Oriental is expected to open in 2020. The luxury hotel will be a part of a large mixed-use development located in the central part of Makati City. Not much is known about that hotel at the moment. The hotel will have 275 guestrooms and will be developed by Ayala Land Hotels & Resorts. That company will also become the owner of the property. After its opening, Mandarin Oriental will become one of leading hotels in the luxury segment in Manila.
Mandarin Oriental Group also named the reason why they decided to close the iconic hotel. According to them, even though the hotel is an iconic destination loved by generations of travellers, its facilities and infrastructure cannot keep up with the luxury standards of the Group.
